**20 month update**-I have nothing, absolutely nothing negative to say about this ride-on. My tall 8 year old and 6 year old still easily fit into it. It is still in perfect working order. Once in a blue moon the car will stop because I guess shaking made the cable to the battery come a little loose. But the big issue is my tall almost 9 year old is no where near outgrowing this. She has to bend her knees more, but she doesn't mind.**
I searched a long time before picking this ride on toy for my 5 year olds birthday. After a week, I think I did very well. First, this little dune buggy gets around great. It is actually pretty fast in high gear on pavement. It can easily drive through grass and up a 10% or so grade in one part of our yard. The tires have great traction, much better than a smaller ride on we had before where the tires would often spin on a remotely smooth surface. It is very roomy inside. Our 7 year old can easily use it. It is a great car if you don't want your kid to outgrow it because they basically sit in it with their leg extended straight out (at 5), but they have plenty of room to bend their knee if they are taller because they are sitting so flat and there is no dash or anything to get in the way of them doing that. Even the steering column is pretty small which would be the only obstruction. It seems very well made. It actually has a metal frame underneath it. This was about the cheapest ride on we found and it shipped via regular UPS so we didn't have to mess around with scheduling freight shipping and the horrible hassle it would be if the thing needed returned by freight. It was pretty easy to put together. Took maybe 45 minutes and was mostly just putting in some screws. The turning radius is not extremely tight if I had a small complaint. Some people complained about it being a bit too big for their kid who couldn't reach the pedal and that seats weren't adjustable. This is not an issue for us, but all you would need to do is put a small pillow of needed thickness behind the childs back to scoot them forward a bit until they can reach better and to me the fact that I know my 7 year old could use this for at least a couple of years and that my 5 year old can for many years is way more important. I highly recommend.
My daughters (4 and 6 years old) received this for Christmas in 2015. A few days after Christmas we took it for a test drive in the back yard. My 6 year old was the driver and has not really driven anything that would actually work for years. Within a few minutes she was cruising on low speed all round the yard going up and down the hills and over roots, ditches and small sticks.
The vehicle got stuck once on a hill where the back wheels were coming off the ground and bouncing off a root. I instructed her to back up and go full speed and she went right over it. She ran into a few things and it held together well. The rain began about 30 minutes in so we had to cut the test short. I believe this will be really cool when they both have one and we set it on full speed.
I put this together Christmas Eve which I do NOT recommend. I am mechanically inclined and it took about and hour and a half to put together. A few of the screws were extremely difficult to get lined up with the holes and it almost seemed like something was machined incorrectly.
This power wheels is a lot heavier than I expected. The box is team lift, but I was able to move it around myself.
Check out the video of the first 30 seconds of my older daughter driving it for the first time a few days after Christmas.
